Keep Your Pants On
November looms with the usual question: NaNo or Not?
This year I chose NaNo.
It's October 25 as I write this and I am, as usual, convinced I'm out of my mind.
I've won NaNo before, so I know I can write 50 000 words in 30 days, but I keep asking myself WHY?
It's not that easy, after all. It can be downright teary, some days. And I have carpal tunnel syndrome. What am I thinking?
This year, however, I've got some strong support around my in the form of writing friends who are most likely sitting at their kitchen tables wondering the same thing as I am. WHY?
Well, even though most of it will be laughable garbage, at the end of November I will have a first draft written of a new novel.
I know I won't be alone during this writing marathon.
NaNoWriMo has great support online in their forums, pep talks and sponsors.
It's another opportunity for community-building. Writing can be pretty lonely.
And my writer friends have planned a 'formal' write-in. I have already dusted off my tiara.
I've done my NaNoPrep and I'm as ready as I'll ever be. My area kick-off is October 30, and while the kids are arguing over their Hallowe'en candy, I'll be writing word 1.
Wish us luck!
